Privacy Policy
The short version. Stow has no accounts, no ads, no tracking and no analytics. Your notes are stored on your device. When a note is sorted in the cloud, its text is sent to the Stow server and to OpenAI only to sort and format it, and Stow does not keep it.
Your notes
Notes are stored on your device. Stow has no copy of your note library.
When a note is sorted
To file, title and format a note, the app sends the note's text, the names of your existing folders (with how many notes each holds and the title of its most recent note), your chosen formatting style, and your device's language, time zone and current time to the Stow server. The server forwards this to OpenAI, L.L.C. (the maker of ChatGPT), which returns the suggested folder, title and formatted text. The server then passes that result back to the app.
- Stow does not store the text of your notes or the results on its servers and does not write them to its logs. They are held in memory only while the request is processed.
- OpenAI processes the request under its API business terms. Under those terms, data sent through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models by default. OpenAI may keep API data for a limited period (up to 30 days) for abuse monitoring, as described in its own policies. Stow cannot delete data held by OpenAI.
- Your note is never sold, shared with advertisers or used to build a profile of you.
On-device mode
If you choose on-device sorting (Apple Intelligence, on supported devices), notes are sorted on your iPhone and are not sent to the Stow server or to OpenAI.
What the server keeps
- A usage counter keyed by a random install identifier that the app generates. It counts how many notes were sorted this month so the free allowance can be applied, and it expires on its own after about 40 days. The identifier is not linked to your name, email, Apple Account or the content of your notes.
- Short-lived abuse-prevention counters keyed by a one-way hash of your IP address, which expire within two days.
- A cached subscription check keyed by a one-way hash of your App Store receipt, recording only whether it is valid, for up to six hours.
Like any web service, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes IP addresses to deliver requests.
Purchases
Stow Pro is sold through Apple. Apple handles payment; the app sends Stow a signed App Store receipt to confirm the subscription. Stow never sees your payment details.
Deleting your data
Your notes are on your device: deleting a note removes it, and deleting the app removes all of them. The server holds no notes to delete; the usage counter expires on its own.
Children
Stow does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
